Big News, Sci-Fi Fans – My New Shopify Store is Coming!

Hey everyone, Doug here. I’m thrilled to announce a major change to the sci-fi publishing world: I’m moving my stories over to my very own Shopify store! (Okay, maybe I exaggerate my current impact on the genre...But I have dreams!)

Although I have been publishing space opera, military sci-fi and humorous science fiction since 2016, for a while now I’ve been testing the waters with direct sales on a different platform, and now it’s time to go all in. This new home on Shopify isn’t just a store—it’s a reader experience built just for you.

Why the change? Well, if you’ve been following the publishing trends, you know of the growing challenge of selling our stories on the big marketplaces. Amid a flood of new ebooks and even some AI-generated filler, most indie authors like myself find that our work is becoming more difficult for the average reader to discover amidst the growing volume of choices. 

All of this is because ebooks have become a commodity, like coffee or shoes. As a product, there is nothing special about them. They only acquire value to someone if the reader happens to enjoy a particular author's work. To succeed, an author must strive to become a Starbucks or a Nike to the reader; a recognized and loved brand. Otherwise, their work will become lost among the millions of other books being published.

My goal has always been to deliver something unique and genuine. My stories aren’t just books—they’re crafted adventures meant to transport you to galaxies far away and into the heart of epic science fiction.

This new Shopify store is my answer to the challenges of today’s digital marketplace. Here, you won’t just be buying an ebook; you’ll be joining a community of readers who appreciate a real, personal connection with the work. I’m building a brand that stands for quality, creativity, and a little bit of that offbeat humour you’ve come to expect from my writing.

I’m working hard to get everything ready, and I plan to officially launch by the end of April 2025. In the meantime, you can still grab my latest works from the usual spots like Amazon, Kobo, Apple, Google, and Barnes & Noble. Once the new store is live, though, you’ll have an exclusive hub to explore all my stories and get behind-the-scenes updates on upcoming projects that won't be available elsewhere. Plus, I will be releasing all of my new work on my Shopify store first (sometimes weeks in advance of it appearing on those other platforms).
